Condemning Gaza Genocide: Western Complicity vs. China's Global Advocacy for peace

Islamabad, June 26, 2024 – The Pakistan-China Institute hosted a webinar titled "Condemning Gaza Genocide: Western Complicity vs. China's Global Advocacy for peace", in which the speakers condemned the ongoing genocide in Palestine and the Western support enabling these atrocities. The webinar brought together renowned scholars and experts from around the world to discuss the humanitarian crisis and advocate for immediate global intervention. The speakers collectively condemned the United States and Western nations for their unwavering support of Israel's actions, which have resulted in the systematic genocide of Palestinians. The destruction of homes, indiscriminate killings of women and children, and the ongoing siege of Gaza have been facilitated by Western political and military backing.

During the webinar, a strong call to action was directed at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The participants urged the UNHRC to take immediate and decisive measures to halt the atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people. "It is imperative that the international community stands up against these violations of human rights. The UNHRC must enforce international laws to protect the innocent lives being lost daily in Palestine," stated Professor Eghosa Emmanuel Osaghae, a Nigerian Political Scientist. Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Amina Yusuf, an expert in African Development from Somalia, remarked, "The international community cannot remain silent in the face of such grave injustices. It is our collective responsibility to act now."

In stark contrast to the Western stance, China was highlighted as a superpower committed to fostering global peace and prosperity. China's collaborations with developing nations to alleviate poverty, enhance education, and build infrastructure were presented as exemplary models of positive global influence. "China's efforts in promoting sustainable development and poverty alleviation stand as a testament to what true global leadership should look like," said Dr. Amina Yusuf.

The webinar featured insights from additional distinguished experts, including Jibran Nasir, a human rights activist from Pakistan, who underscored the need for immediate humanitarian aid to Palestine. "The humanitarian situation in Palestine is dire. We must mobilise resources and support to provide relief to those suffering," she said. Nanjala Nyabola, a political analyst from Kenya, pointed out the long-term impacts of the conflict on regional stability. "The instability in Palestine affects the entire Middle East and beyond. A sustainable solution is necessary for lasting peace," he noted.

Furthermore, Professor. K. Konasinghe, an expert in public and international law from Sri Lanka, highlighted the legal implications of the ongoing conflict. "The violations of international law by Israel cannot be overlooked. Accountability is essential to ensure justice for the victims," he asserted. Ashfaqul Chowdhury, an economist from Bangladesh, spoke on the economic devastation in Palestine. "The blockade and destruction have crippled the Palestinian economy. International economic aid and rebuilding efforts are urgently needed to restore livelihoods," he emphasised.

The Pakistan-China Institute remains committed to advocating for justice and human rights. Today's webinar serves as a reminder of the international community's responsibility to intervene in the face of genocide and to support efforts that promote peace and development globally.
